Where the name comes from
It looks like a Scandinavian surname. It is actually a chemistry joke.
Stella is the easy half: Latin for star, 星.
Baicø is where it gets nerdy. Bai is 白 — white — as in 白晶, clear crystal, which is the raw material at the start of everything we make. The Cø comes from BaCO₃, barium carbonate: the compound that gives fine glass its weight and its clarity. Barium carbonate gives you CO₃, CO₃ gives you COE — which any glassmaker will tell you is the coefficient of expansion, the number that decides whether two glasses can live together or crack apart — and COE, finally, gives you CØ.
A star, and the chemistry that makes glass worth looking at. The slashed Ø is a Nordic letterform, and that is not an accident either: the plainness we design toward is a northern European habit.
How we work
We are small, and split across two countries. The commercial, design and marketing side sits in Germany. The sourcing, quality control and logistics side sits in China — inside the supply chain rather than emailing it from a safe distance.
That second part is the one that matters. We are on the factory floor. We know which benches turn out which pieces, which glass house holds its tolerances through a night shift, and which one to politely walk away from. When a run comes out wrong we see it before it is packed, rather than when the reviews arrive.
Why we sell on Amazon
Because that is where our customers in the United States and Canada already are, and because Amazon does the part of this job we would do worse: warehousing in two countries, fast delivery, and returns handled without an argument.
We have sold there for several years. Stella Baicø is a registered trademark in both markets.
So this site is not a shop, and that is on purpose. It is the part Amazon cannot really show you — how a jar is actually made, which pieces are blown and which are pressed, and what size you genuinely need for a table of eight.
